Trompe L'Oeil is an age-old art technique with a proud history ranging from Baroque-period frescos depicting grand windows overlooking even grander meadows, to the timeless appeal of the tuxedo t-shirt. You've almost certainly seen the style adorning the interior of stately domes of churches and state buildings, which appear to open toward the heavens but are, in fact, merely an expertly illustrated likeness thereof. Here are some contemporary artists who, not content with making ceilings and walls invisible, manage to disappear their cars, render themselves invisible, and carve gaping chasms into the sidewalks of crowded city streets.
